Who are your Cheerleaders?

I don’t know about you, but for me, making connections is key.

Having the support of friends and family has always been important to me, and this need for a sense of community was perhaps escalated by the covid-19 pandemic.

I realised how important it was to have people to share life with to stave off loneliness and isolation, and to act as your cheerleaders when it comes to tackling life’s challenges.

As mentioned in my first blog, I made a decision this year to embrace new challenges that would help me grow and learn, and to hopefully build new communities as I did so.

One of my biggest cheerleaders has always been my husband, Gordy. Gordy is easy-going and makes riding through life's ups and downs look like a breeze. He’s also very good at knowing when I need a little extra support or encouragement.

Prior to my new learning journey, he purchased Charlie Mackesy’s The Boy, the Mole, the Fox and the Horse book for me. If you haven’t checked it out, I highly recommend you do.

I realise how lucky I am to have an amazing network of cheerleaders around me. But part of my growth journey to date has also been about forming habits or strategies to help me find my inner calm when I need to.

I’ve begun making time for meditation, and thanks to Gordy’s thoughtful gift, The Boy, the Mole, the Fox and the Horse has become a part of that process.

Each day, I open the book to a random page, and without fail I’m met with a poignant quote to help me on my day. Some of my personal favourites have been:

"Sometimes I think you believe in me more than I do,” said the Boy. “You’ll catch up,” said the Horse.
“Sometimes I think you believe in me more than I do,” said the Boy. “You’ll catch up,” said the Horse.
“What is the bravest thing you’ve ever said?”, asked the boy. “Help,” said the Horse.
“Being kind to yourself is one of the greatest kindnesses,” said the Mole.

Have you read the book? What are your favourite quotes? I’d love to hear about your cheerleaders too, tell me about them in the comments below!
